Valeria A. Calderón-Ocak at Lotus Heals Acupuncture NYC Location

Valeria became passionate about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) when her mother experienced life-threatening health conditions. After a year of no answers from numerous medical doctors, Valeria's father decided to look into alternative medicine. In a matter of 6 months her mother's condition drastically improved and she was on her way to a healthful life. It was then Valeria decided that CAM was going to be her lifestyle and livelihood.

Valeria graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2006 from Florida Atlantic University.

In 2011, Valeria decided to steer her focus of CAM toward Reiki and became a Reiki Level 2 Practitioner. She has experience with clients of all ages including athletes, children, pregnant women, and even animals. Reiki is a Japanese word that translates into "Universal Life Energy." Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that within the body there is a natural healing process. Valeria serves as a conduit of this life force through the palm of her hands for the person receiving the healing. Reiki will allow you to harmonize, cleanse, and release any stagnation within the energy field, encouraging a state of equilibrium and enhancing the body's ability to self-heal.

In June of 2013, Valeria completed her course studies with Laura Norman Reflexology School in New York City. She offers foot, hand, face, and ear reflexology and has experience with a variety of conditions and concerns. Reflexology is based on the principle that the image of the body is reflected on the feet. These reflex points correspond to different parts, glands, and organs of the body. The nervous system, which originates in the brain and spinal cord, corresponds to all organs of the body, but these nerve endings also end at the bottom of the feet. Valeria uses thumb, finger, and hand techniques to trigger, stimulate and help balance the nervous system by relieving tension, improving circulation and promoting homeostasis for the natural function of the body to occur.

Valeria is currently in her last year of Graduate school at Hunter College, where she is pursuing a Master's in Special Education, specializing in Orientation and Mobility for children who are blind and visually impaired. She hopes to one day provide her alternative therapies to her future students.
